Machine condition monitoring based on oil analysis has become an important, if not mandatory, maintenance practice for many companies manufacturing all sorts of products. An effective oil analysis program will keep important manufacturing assets such as pumps, gears, bearings, compressors, engines, hydraulic systems and other oil-wetted machinery in operation by reducing unexpected failures and costly unscheduled down time.
In some cases, manufacturers use oil analysis not only for their own process equipment, but also to ensure that the manufactured product itself is in good mechanical condition. For example, several engine manufacturers that are Spectro customers take samples from engines after they have been run-in, or operated for some time in the factory, before they are allowed to pass final inspection.
